St. Anthony Community Project

Located in North Dartmouth, the St. Anthony Community Project is an outreach initiative of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. The Project is dedicated to meeting the basic and most urgent needs of individuals and families in our community and providing relational support through outreach ministries. We engage in partnerships with community organizations, not-for-profits and faith groups to maximize our collective impact.

All parishes and churches are invited to support and participate in this project.

Chalice Canada will be offering a MicroChalice program at St. Anthony Church in the Spring of 2024. Chalice is a Catholic international aid charity focused on child, family, and community development. They work closely with lay people, religious missionaries, and local communities to provide care for the many children and families caught in the dehumanizing grip of poverty. "This is the first time Chalice has considered opening a site in Canada, so we are grateful for the opportunity to assess the possibility of offering a modified Chalice program at St. Anthony’s church location," Father Pat Cosgrove. The program will work with a coordinator to support families to address financial literacy with a micro-savings & loan opportunity and share community meals in a faith filled environment. Parishes from across the diocese are invited to support this initiative.

Nourish Nova Scotia is a tenant at this location as of July 2023, they are dedicated to supporting healthy food environments for children and youth. They're on a mission to inspire every child in Nova Scotia to eat, enjoy and value food that fuels healthier people and a healthier environment. Nourish Nova Scotia moved out of their previous Bedford location and is now renting administrative space at 27 Farrell Street, previously St. Anthony Hall. We’re happy to have Nourish in our community and look forward to working with them on community improvements and programs. "When looking for a new office location, we prioritized easy access to public transit and active transportation routes. This relocation is not just about a change of address; it represents a step towards fostering accessibility, sustainability, and a brighter future for both our team and the communities we serve! We’re excited to be in a community space, better enabling us to build valuable partnerships that extend beyond our organization’s walls," Nourish NS.

The Mobile Food Market office will also be relocating as a tenant to this location in August 2023. This exciting move brings their mission of ensuring access to fresh fruits and vegetables even closer to your doorstep. Initially, this will be an operational space and not a market location just yet.  The Mobile Food Market brings healthy, affordable, high quality foods to Halifax Regional Municipality neighbourhoods with limited access. They operate markets throughout the year and hope to establish a market at St. Anthony in the near future.

Operational costs and renovations are needed for the 2023/2024 year to renovate the kitchen, St. Anthony chapel, outdoor space, and to support direct programming.

The kitchen renovations and outdoor space renewal will support all of our partnerships, ministries, and tenants as well as offer a chance for local community groups and schools to utilize our space.
