At Our Lady of Guadalupe we would be honoured to walk with you and your family during the loss of your loved one and keep your family in our prayers. We want to share with you the different ways we can gather with your family to support you during this difficult time.
Liturgy of the Word
This is a beautiful gathering of the community to pray for your loved one together with you and your family. This is typically how we celebrate funerals at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. This is identical to a Funeral Mass, except the Liturgy of the Eucharist is not celebrated. You will meet with our Funeral Team to choose the readings and music and to share some details of your loved ones for the Deacon or Presider to share in his reflection. This is an expression of grief that fits best when many of the mourners are not active church-goers. A Priest will also offer a private Mass for the repose of your loved one's soul.
Funeral Mass
As a community, we gather for a Mass to pray together with you and your family for your loved one. You will meet with our Funeral Team beforehand to choose the readings and music for the Mass and to share some details about the life of your loved one for the Priest to share in his homily. This is an expression of grief that is best when the deceased was a member of our parish and many of the mourners are active churchgoers and will be receiving the Eucharist.
Committal
An important part of grieving and of honouring the life of a person is the releasing of their remains to the earth. A committal is the gathering of a small community, often just close family and friends and the presider, at the graveside or mausoleum. Brief prayers of blessing of the grave or mausoleum are offered as the remains of your loved one are laid to rest.
